Surviving Coronavirus … with public health knowledge + other reads, listens, Eats, Laughs
6/3/20 - Of all the things to read, say, ponder about this moment … picking Instagram Blackout seems shallow. But it has me thinking about where to fit into a movement amplified by social media, when it’s not my primary mode of voice, engagement, contribution. (And just read The Circle, which is only ok, but still …)
5/31/20 - Anand Giridharadas On Being reflecting on questions that have been deeply troubling me since I read this 2 years ago. Good and harm, more and less, positivity and darkness, “winners” and the problems they seek to solve, elite ideals and self protection. Changing system or letting the system change us?

5/18/20 - Basically did nothing all day but read about the Dead Wake, about the sinking of the Lusitania. Weird century-old escapism that felt strangely relevant in this time - a sinking ship truly doesn’t discriminate by class. Neither does a virus, they say … and yet, COVID impacts are not being felt equally by any measure.
5/11/20 - Treating coronavirus like a “garden party” with NYT’s Don McNeil on Fresh Air. Listening on the day Maui retail opens but child care sites still can’t.

5/6/20 - Reading this week: Revived college Greek mythology with Circe. Hated American Dirt. But glad I read it, because Home Fire connected the two and I am now obsessed with all things Kamila Shamsie. Honorable mentions: I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter (ok) and Signs Preceding the End of the World (beautifully poetic), from the “instead of A.D. list.”
5/1/20 - Lei day beauty from Stanford Talisman
